National Reading Contest – Concurso Nacional de Leitura (Portugal)

The main objective of the National Reading Contest (Concurso Nacional de Leitura – CNL)  is to stimulate children and young people to practice reading autonomously and for pleasure.

The Contest is an initiative of the National Reading Plan 2027, in partnership with the Network of School Libraries, the General Direction of the Book, Archives and Libraries, the Camões IP, the Directorate of Teaching Services and Portuguese Schools Abroad, has the support of the Municipality of Pombal and counts on the sponsorships of Bertrand Editora and Pingo Doce.

Approximately 5,000 students from 1,000 schools located in Portugal, the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores and in other countries participated in this initiative. 135 Municipal libraries were also actively involved in this contest, during which 800 literary works were read, presented and disseminated by the students.

The final of the CNL  counted with the presence of 204 students, among who 20 finalists  were selected and did the last test of this contest. Hundreds of teachers, librarians, reading mediators and the families themselves participated and encouraged this reading and writing competition.
