Family Literacy: A Guide for Families (Switzerland)

The Swiss Institute for Children’s and Youth Media SIKJM developed a small but informative and highly effective guide, which provides families with helpful hints to encourage their child’s language and literacy development. All ideas are easy to integrate in the daily life of families. For example, the guide encourages parents to speak in their mother tongue or to discover with their children letters on street signs and products of their daily life. Other tips include reading stories aloud, looking at pictures together, having conversations and playing with rhymes and songs. The guide is available in the four official Swiss languages and ten migration languages. Schools, libraries, daycare centers and other multipliers order the guide from the SIKJM and hand it directly to parents or put it up in their facilities.
