Located in Salzburg the Austrian Library Service offers advice, training and representation for more than 7,000 librarians in around 1,300 member libraries.

The Austrian Library Service works in the field of reading promotion, provides online services and interfaces for data exchange and library administration and strengthens public libraries as places for encounters and social integration.

In 2011 the project “Bookstart Austria” went public. It quickly developed into the leading project in the field of “family literacy” in Austria: www.buchstart.at

Supported by a wide network of librarians, authors and illustrators, publishers, pedagogues and art mediators, the Österreichisches Bibliothekswerk relies on individuality, creativity and independent implementation of project ideas in its projects.
